The story
The Paris-Dakar was Thierry Sabine’s idea: a race from Paris, across the Sahara, to the Atlantic coast of Senegal. He summed it up in one line: a challenge for those who go, a dream for those who stay behind. By 1988, the race’s tenth edition, the route ran Paris–Algiers–Dakar. Cars, motorbikes and trucks fought over the same stages of dunes, rock and road-book navigation, and a Peugeot 205 T16 Grand Raid took the car class.
